The Snail and the Glowworm

Would you believe that a small glowworm (a female firefly) can conquer a snail several times her size and eat it for dinner?

The snail has one vulnerable spot, the fleshy foot that peeps out underneath its shell and enables it to crawl and attach itself to objects.  The glowworm waits until she finds a snail crawling,  resting on the ground, or sunk into its shell with just a little of the fleshy part showing.  Then, ever so quietly, she creeps up and taps the snail unprotected bit of flesh with her two tiny hooked fangs so gently that the snail is not aware of it.  After a pause, the glowworm taps it again, then again.  She is putting her victim to sleep with glowworm anesthetic.  While the unsuspecting snail sleeps, the glowworm dissolves the snail with her saliva and drinks the now liquid snail for her supper.

There is a way the snail can escape from the clever tactics of its enemy, the glowworm; that is to rest on a smooth rock instead of the ground, so that the opening of its shell is completely shielded by rock and no fleshy part is showing.  The snail whose opening is completely shielded by a rock has no vulnerable place for its enemy to attack--it is safe.

Jesus is your rock, your place of safety.  If you stay under His protection by obeying His word, you will be able to say no to temptation and sin; you will be sheltered against Satan's attacks.  Happy is the young person who goes to Jesus for refuge!
