Falling Short of the Grace of God...

See to it that no one falls short of God’s grace; that no root of resentment springs up and causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;—Hebrews 12:15

The phrase “fall short of the grace of God gave me pause this morning. What does it mean to fall short of God’s grace?  Now there is only one way to fall short of it permanently and that is through unbelief.  We can, however, esteem God’s favor to us lightly.  A bitter root of sin and unforgiveness in our hearts can keep us from receiving His grace as can legalism in any form.  We, as believers, are to keep our hearts with all diligence for out of our heart, the Bible tells us, spring the issues of life. Our hearts will, as today’s proverb says, reflect and reveal the man.  Our words and actions then will follow what our heart believes.   Let us allow the word of God to have its way in our life.  God gives grace to the humble but the proud he knows from afar.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.
14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.—Hebrews 4:12-16
