Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One, And Come Away…

To My Precious Daughters..

I love the Song of Solomon...it is one of my favorites.  People laugh when they hear me say that, because there are so many interpretations to this book...some see it as an erotic love poem...others as the love between the king and his maiden and there are many viewpoints in between.  I see it as a beautiful picture of the love that Jesus has for me personally and corporately for His Bride, the church.

With that said I was reading  the Song of Solomon  and came to chapter 2. Read the following verses as a love letter from the Lord or as if He is outside your bedroom window speaking to you before the dawn of a new day.

My beloved spoke, and said to me: "Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away.   For lo, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove Is heard in our land. The fig tree puts forth her green figs, And the vines with the tender grapes Give a good smell. Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away!  "O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret places of the cliff, Let me see your face, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your face is lovely." Catch us the foxes, The little foxes that spoil the vines, For our vines have tender grapes.  My beloved is mine, and I am his. He feeds his flock among the lilies. Until the day breaks And the shadows flee away, Turn, my beloved, And be like a gazelle Or a young stag Upon the mountains of Bether.

These verses always speak to my heart about what is truly important and how I need to give Jesus the pre-eminence in my life.  Jesus wants to spend time with me.  I am His love, His fair one, the one He died for...He is asking me to come away with Him.  He wants to see my face and hear my voice.  My king is outside my window before daybreak and is calling me to come...Other things in life (the little foxes) try to get in the way of my time with Him.  But He says, spend time with me, this is your all.  Don't stay in bed and leave me outside...come with Me.  You will need my grace and mercy.  You will need my guidance and my love today.  There are things I need to tell you.  Come away with me my love.

If only we would heed these words of Jesus...to come away with Him and let Him speak to our hearts.  But many times we roll over in bed and tell Him that yes, we are His, but we will meet Him later...you know...after the sun is up...at a less ungodly hour...or at a less inconvenient time. If you read further, what you will find is that as the day starts she finds that she needs Him and searches for Him in the city streets and in the broad ways...but she found him not. She had missed the moment. As soon as she does find Him, however, she takes Him to the closest place available to be with Him and would not let Him go.

May we never not hear and obey His voice when He calls us to come away and be with Him.  May we put aside the business of living for a moment and focus on Him when His Spirit speaks to our hearts. Put nothing before Jesus and even your dark times He will make light about you.
