"But you, go your way till the end; for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days."—Daniel 12:13
I love these words of God to Daniel! Prophecy is exciting and faith encouraging. I do not understand all of it but none of it make me afraid or dismayed. My God will preserve me through it all. The eternal God is my refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms. Someday, I like Daniel, will rest in the presence of my Savior and will arise to my inheritance at the end of days. A life of trusting and obeying God brings a glorious reward.
Rest…the older I get the more I like that word. Oh, how I hated to be 9 and have my mom tell me to slow down and read a book for an hour or two. Life is fraught with so much angst and always so much to do. Sometimes it seems the more we automate it with computers and other technology that it just makes it spin faster and feel more out of control. So mom…thank you for the good habits you instilled. Slowing down with a book…for me that good book is the Bible…sounds pretty perfect.
Father…I want to go my way til the end of this life in resting in Your love, Your strength and Your power. I want to walk calmly and resolutely through the rest of my days following hard after my You, my Savior and my Lord. Help me to live a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence…help me to behave as a child of the Most High God.
Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.—Colossians 3:12-17
1 Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;
naught be all else to me, save that thou art.
Thou my best thought, by day or by night,
waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.
2 Be thou my wisdom, be thou my true word;
I ever with thee, and thou with me, Lord.
Born of thy love, thy child may I be,
thou in me dwelling and I one with thee.
3 Be thou my buckler, my sword for the fight.
Be thou my dignity, thou my delight,
thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tow’r.
Raise thou me heav’nward, O Pow’r of my pow’r.
4 Riches I heed not, nor vain empty praise;
thou mine inheritance, now and always.
Thou and thou only, first in my heart,
Ruler of heaven, my treasure thou art.
5 "*True Light of heaven, when vict’ry is won
may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’n’s Sun!
Heart of my heart, whatever befall,
still be my vision, O Ruler of all.
*Alternate phrase: “High King”
