By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.—Hebrews 11:27
Moses could have had an easy life as the adopted son of an Egyptian princess. By faith, he instead, trusted God, forsook Egypt and endured by seeing Him who is invisible. Moses considered the sufferings of this present time as not worthy to be compared with the glory which would be revealed in him. He saw what he faced on earth as light, momentary affliction. By faith he understood that the passing trouble of this world was working for him a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.
Beloved, Moses fixed his eyes on that which is eternal in the heavens. Moses believed God. He turned away from worldly safety and comfort and embraced that which those surrounding him despised. Why? Because Moses looked to the reward.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
Moses looked to the things that were NOT seen. Beloved...THAT IS HARD...THAT FEELS IMPOSSIBLE to me this morning. Thankfully though, that is the right feeling. It IS impossible for me but not for God.
In 2 Corinthians 4, Paul quotes King David in Psalm 116. It was true for David, it was true for Paul and it is true for us today. Do not lose heart...Hold fast.
And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.—2 Corinthians 4:13-15
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.—Hebrews 12:1-2
