Thinking on Mercy….

Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters,

As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress,

So our eyes look to the LORD our God,

Until He has mercy on us.—Psalm 123:2

Thinking on His mercy this morning. Here is the definition I found for it in my Thompson Chain Reference Bible:

A form of love, especially directed toward the needy or unworthy.  I love that...the needy and the unworthy...that would be us!  God's mercy is also described as eternal, everlasting, boundless, prolonging life, encouraging penitence, forgiving sin, making salvation possible and is most vividly seen in the face of Jesus Christ.

Thank you, Father, that You are my God of mercy.  You who made heaven and earth are the God of the poor and needy...of the broken and contrite heart.  You delight when I trust You…when I look to You and wait for your steadfast love to envelop me and carry me through.  Clinging to You always brings consolation.

Oh Lord, make me aware of the multitude of Your mercies to me each and every day.  Truly, Your steadfast love toward me never ceases. Open my eyes to Your blessings. Help me to dwell there…to see Your power but also to see the gentle cords with which You draw me to Yourself.

Thank you that when I come to You…

Overwhelmed and Burdened…You give me rest.

Weak and Afraid…You stoop down and help me

Downcast and Desperate…you renew a right spirit within me. You minister to my heart in such a way that brings beauty from ashes

Keep me from pride and arrogance!  May I NEVER resist Your call to come.

A bruised reed You will not break and a smoking flax You will not quench. May my own heart, O God, overflow toward others with the mercy, gentleness and goodness that You have so graciously shown me. Let Your love and mercy be my weapons that never fail. May they affect not only the temporal but the eternal as well. May I  walk in Your steadfast love and be a breath of heavenly air to those You have placed in my path.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." --Matthew 11:28-29

Those who look to him are radiant,

and their faces shall never be ashamed.—Psalm 34:5

The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.  He will not always strive with us, Nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, Nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; As far as the east is from the west, So far has He removed our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, So the LORD pities those who fear Him.  For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. For the wind passes over it, and it is gone, And its place remembers it no more.  But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting On those who fear Him, And His righteousness to children's children, To such as keep His covenant, And to those who remember His commandments to do them. --Psalm 103:8-19
