O [God] my strength, I will watch for You;
For God is my stronghold [my refuge, my protector, my high tower].
My God in His [steadfast] lovingkindness will meet me;
God will let me look triumphantly on my enemies [who lie in wait for me].—Psalm 59:9-10 AMP
Who or what do we wait for? Where do we place our hope? Our trust? Whose strength do we walk in as we go about our day? I confess that for me, it is not always God whom I watch for, nor is it God in whose strength I walk. Sadly, much of the time the answers to those questions in my life is “me”. The good news is that as I abide in His word and purpose in my heart each morning to surrender to His Spirit, I become, by His grace, incrementally more dependent on Him. And THAT is where I want to be ALWAYS.
Beloved…Our God will defend those that are His. Make Him who holds the world together and your very life in His hands your Strength, your Refuge, your Protector and your High Tower. Our mighty, omnipotent God is for us! He is on our side! Therefore, let us watch and wait for Him…He will perfect that which concerns us. He will perform all things for us.
Verse 11 is my favorite.
My God in His [steadfast] lovingkindness will meet me;
How beautiful are these words! Can our Heavenly Father be unkind? Oh give thanks to the Lord for He is good! His mercy endures forever! His name…His very essence is love. He does not change. He gives what is good.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.—James 1:17
The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me—
A prayer to the God of my life.—Psalm 42
I have four children…all grown…but even now when they suffer I would rather it be me who is suffering if it would somehow relieve them of their pain. If we, then, as fallen human beings look on our own little ones (and big ones) with love and compassion, how much more does our loving and perfect God do the same for us, His own precious children? God is not indifferent to us just as we are not indifferent to our own children.
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"—Luke 11:13
This I recall to my mind,
Therefore I have hope.
Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.—Lamentations 3:21-24
God, in His steadfast love, meets those whom He chose before the foundation of the world to be His children. Listen to how Jeremiah puts it…
The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying:
"Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.—Jeremiah 31:3
As we watch for Him, He will come to us. He is forever faithful. His plans for us are good. Our God keeps His promises.
Nevertheless My lovingkindness I will not utterly take from him,
Nor allow My faithfulness to fail.
My covenant I will not break,
Nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips.—Psalm 89:33-34
"I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake;
And I will not remember your sins.—Isaiah 43:25
Let us, therefore, go boldly to His throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in our time of need. Let us cast our cares upon Him who cares for us. His loving kindness will meet us. His strength will uphold us and His grace will see us through.
