I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.—Psalm 18:3
Yesterday, before I went to sleep, the Holy Spirit took the first six words of the above verse and used them to bring me much peace.
I will call upon the LORD…
It is difficult to explain the impact these simple words had on my heart as I read them last night and tucked them away for safekeeping. You can know something in your head, but still not really see or understand its true import. Last night the Spirit opened the eyes of my understanding and enabled me to see and feel just a small portion of the greatness and goodness of God through these simple words. What a gift we who are in Christ have! We can call upon the Lord! We can come boldly before His throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace to help in our time of need.
Lately, my heart has been stirred and grieved for a “loved one” that is in the midst of a great trial. These simple words of David that brought me so much comfort last night on my own behalf, also brought me much comfort on behalf of my “loved one”. If I can cry out to my God, they can too! As God is with me, He is with them also! Love, grace, mercy, and peace are right there for the asking. I don’t have to feel anxious or helpless about anything or anyone in this life…ever. I can call upon the Lord! He will hear my prayer. He will intercede for me. He will do exceedingly abundantly above all that I can ask or even think in each and every person and situation I bring before Him. He loves them so much more than I ever could. He knows exactly what they need.
To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.—Ps 25:1
He Giveth More Grace - Annie J Flint
He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.
When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.
Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.
His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.
