I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.
2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay,
And set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
3 He has put a new song in my mouth—
Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the LORD.—Psalm 40:1-3
He has put a new song in my mouth. What is the title of that song? PRAISE TO OUR GOD! Many, the psalmist says, will see it and will trust in the Lord. How beautiful is that!
Sadly, the melody of that song often becomes hard for us to hear as we walk through the daily muck and mire of this life. God uses all of nature…all of His creation…to turn up the volume to help us hear and remember that He loves us, that He has not forgotten us, and that He is with us. The flower in your yard praises the Father in Heaven just by being a flower and doing exactly what God planned for it. The very heavens themselves declare His glory and both the trees of the field and rivers clap their hands to get our attention.
The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.—Psalm 19:1-4
8 Let the rivers clap their hands;
Let the hills be joyful together before the LORD—Psalm 98:8
12 “For you shall go out with joy,
And be led out with peace;
The mountains and the hills
Shall break forth into singing before you,
And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.—Isaiah 55:12
Beloved…Praise to our God is the song our hearts were made to sing.
Come Thou fount of every blessing
Tune our hearts to sing thy grace
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Calls for songs of loudest praise.
Jesus came into this world to save us from sin and death, so that we could once again sing His beautiful song of salvation. He lived the title…PRAISE TO OUR GOD…with every fiber of His being so that we could join Him in that song. Fix your heart on His redeeming love…the loyal love that He has for those who belong to Him that never changes and never ceases. Praise to our God is truly the song that never ends. May we live today as Jesus lived, glorifying God with our hearts, our voices and our lives. May others see it and put their trust in Him.
For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God.—2 Corinthians 4:15
