Then Our Mouth Was Filled with Laughter…

There are certain situations in my life where I am in God’s waiting room, so to speak.  I have obeyed and done my part and now each one of them is in His hands.  It is a good place to be even though I admit I would soooo also like to be here:

1 When the LORD brought back the captivity of Zion,

We were like those who dream.

2 Then our mouth was filled with laughter,

And our tongue with singing.

Then they said among the nations,

"The LORD has done great things for them."

3 The LORD has done great things for us,

And we are glad.—Psalm 126:1-3

But instead I am here…

5 Those who sow in tears

Shall reap in joy.

6 He who continually goes forth weeping,

Bearing seed for sowing,

Shall doubtless come again with rejoicing,

Bringing his sheaves with him.—Psalm 126:5-6

Here is the thing…despite where I am…heartbreak or joy..I can still sing and give God praise.

Sing praises to the LORD, O you his saints, and give thanks to his holy name. For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning. —Ps 30:4-5

David, in his lifetime, experienced many trials.  Part and parcel with those trials came the experience of God’s deliverance and the overwhelming realization that no trial lasts forever.  We, as God’s beloved children, stand in His grace...in His PERMANENT favor.  His  lovingkindnesses are ALWAYS before our eyes.  His gifts to us, even in the darkest of times, are steadfast. (Think on Matthew 28:1). Weeping, Warren Wiersbe reminds us, comes as a guest, but God’s gracious favor is with us for a lifetime.  Your steadfast love, Father, is better than life, my lips WILL praise you. I WILL extoll You!

For a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you.  In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you," says the LORD, your Redeemer.  (Isaiah 54:7-8, ESV)

To console those who mourn in Zion,

To give them beauty for ashes,

The oil of joy for mourning,

The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;

That they may be called trees of righteousness,

The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."—Isaiah 61:3

Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.  When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.(John 16:20-22, ESV)

So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18, ESV)

10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return,

And come to Zion with singing,

With everlasting joy on their heads.

They shall obtain joy and gladness,

And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.—Isaiah 35:10

They shall come with weeping,

And with supplications I will lead them.

I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters,

In a straight way in which they shall not stumble;

For I am a Father to Israel,

And Ephraim is My firstborn.—Jeremiah 31:9

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.—Gal 6:9

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

"For Your sake we are killed all day long;

We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:35-39
