So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat.
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."
But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!"—Luke 5:1-8 (emphasis mine)
This was the highest albeit the lowest point in Peter’s life. This was the moment where Peter saw the Lord and consequently saw himself as he truly was…a sinful man. It was also the moment where spiritually he was made alive and conveyed from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the Son of His love. Faith came by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
Father…in me nothing good dwells! I love this story about Peter. I love how You can take our lowest moments here on this earth and spiritually make them our highest. There is so much of me still “standing” in my own heart that there is not much room for You. You must increase, I must decrease! Keep my heart humble before You. Help me to see myself as I truly am…hopeless and helpless. Thank you that it is in my humility that You draw near. May my heart continually sing of Your amazing grace in Your goodness toward a sinner like me.
And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.—2 Corinthians 12:9

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.—Ephesians 2:1-10
