Power Belongs to God…

God has spoken once,

Twice I have heard this:

That power belongs to God.

Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy;

For You render to each one according to his work.—Psalm 62:11-12

I spent some time in Psalm 62 last night and fell asleep thinking on the Lord’s power and mercy.

God has spoken once…This one made me smile because it is so different from my own experience. God doesn’t have to speak twice. He says exactly what He intends. He makes no mistakes and He does not change. He speaks and it is done. He commands and it stands fast. I don’t know about you, but I speak so many words that are so very unnecessary. God speaks and His word is eternal in the heavens…

The grass withers, the flower fades,

But the word of our God stands forever."Isa 40:8

Twice I have heard this…I wasn’t sure what this one meant except that perhaps the psalmist was meditating on the words that God had spoken. I liked that because when we meditate on the word, we have God’s words in our minds and not ours. So He speaks once, but we should always be thinking on His words.

That power belongs to God…I so liked reading that and yes, repeating it and even praying it when my daughter asked me to pray with her before bed last night.

Trust in the LORD forever,

For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.Isaiah 26:4

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.—Matthew 28:18

Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."John 19:11

After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, "Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God!Revelation 19:1

Ascribe strength to God;

His excellence is over Israel,

And His strength is in the clouds.

O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places.

The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people.

Blessed be God!Psalm 68:34-35

If all power belongs to our God, then why, oh why, am I so foolish as to put my trust anywhere else? God is the source of all power. In Him is where it is found. So MUCH reason for faith!  Now may He who established the mountains by His strength, stills the noise of the seas, the tumults of the peoples and makes the outgoing of the morning and evening rejoice, write this precious truth on our hearts today. Beloved…It can never be unwise to rest on the mighty arm of our God.

Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy…Wait..there is more.  Power not only belongs to our God but mercy, which is a form of love especially directed toward the needy or unworthy, as well!  His strength won’t crush us…because we belong to Him, He is on our side. He uses His power in our lives for our good and His glory.

For You render to each one according to his work. God in His mercy graciously rewards our poor, imperfect works and gives us enough strength for each day.  He is our Good Shepherd. The One who gave His life for us.  Both His power and His mercy endure forever.

For as the heavens are high above the earth,

So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him;

As far as the east is from the west,

So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father pities his children,

So the LORD pities those who fear Him.

For He knows our frame;

He remembers that we are dust.—Psalm 103:11-14

Truly, as it says earlier in this psalm, we can wait silently for God alone for our expectation is from Him.  He who is glorious in power and tender in heart is our strength and our song and has become our salvation.

My soul, wait silently for God alone,

For my expectation is from Him.

He only is my rock and my salvation;

He is my defense;

I shall not be moved.

In God is my salvation and my glory;

The rock of my strength,

And my refuge, is in God.—Psalm 62:5-7
