But if the servant plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free,’ 6 then his master shall bring him to the judges. He shall also bring him to the door, or to the doorpost, and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.--Exodus 21:5-6
To My Daughters,
This is a picture of Jesus...a Servant by choice. The Lord Jesus submitted Himself willing to the Father. He did not seek His own will but the will of Him who sent Him. His prayer in the Garden of Gethsamene was "Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will."
Chapter 50 of Isaiah is the third of four Servant songs. This particular song is all about Jesus being perfected through obedience and suffering. Isaiah says this in verse 5.
The Lord GOD has opened My ear; And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away.
My ear, Isaiah says prophetically, You have opened. Jesus willingly went to the doorpost and allowed God the Father to open His ear with an awl.
Philippians 2:8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
Hebrews 5:7-8 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 8though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,
Jesus is/was a Servant by choice...this is our calling also.
Matthew 10:24 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.
