He Commanded, and it Stood Fast...

So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel." For the LORD had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring disaster on Absalom.—2 Samuel 17:14

“This is one of the great principles of life which every page of the Bible emphasizes and illustrates. Men cannot escape God. They go their own way, but that way never sets them free from the authority and the invincible power of God.” (Morgan)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.  As a believer, I know that my God is for me...and because I know this, God’s providential hand and divine control bring me much peace and comfort.  I CAN relax. It is not up to me.  I am not in control.  Who am I to argue with God?  There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.  The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing;
He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect.  The counsel of the LORD stands forever,  The plans of His heart to all generations.

Many sorrows shall be to the wicked;
But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him.—Psalm 32:10

Psalm 143:10 (NKJV)
Teach me to do Your will, For You [are] my God; Your Spirit [is] good. Lead me in the land of uprightness.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?—Romans 8:30-31
