1 May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble;
May the name of the God of Jacob defend you;
2 May He send you help from the sanctuary,
And strengthen you out of Zion;
3 May He remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice.
Selah
4 May He grant you according to your heart's desire,
And fulfill all your purpose.
5 We will rejoice in your salvation,
And in the name of our God we will set up our banners!
May the LORD fulfill all your petitions.
6 Now I know that the LORD saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.
7 Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.
8 They have bowed down and fallen;
But we have risen and stand upright.
9 Save, LORD!
May the King answer us when we call.—Psalm 20:1-9
This is a prayer before the battle kind of psalm. I have never gone into battle before, but I do battle with my flesh and the enemies of God daily. How helpful it would be for me to remember this and do as David and his men did here...BEFORE going into battle...BEFORE facing the enemy.
—Pray
—Acknowledge my dependence on You
—Trust and affirm that it is in You that I place my trust.
—Rejoice! Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me;
You will stretch forth Your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
And Your right hand will save me.
Father... I am so thankful that You are for us...and if You are for us, then none can truly be against us. We are more than conquerors and gain an overwhelming victory through You who loved us so much that You died for us.
Help me today and every day to remember that this world is not about my ease and comfort. I am a soldier in Your army. I am set aside for your purposes. Keep me from entangling myself in the every day affairs of this life. I want to please You. Today I will put on Your full armor so that I can resist the evil surrounding me and stand firm. I will remember that I can do all things through You, my God, who strengthens me. In this world I will have tribulation, but today I will take courage because You have overcome the world. In You, I will have peace.
And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, "LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!"—2 Chronicles 14:11
“Nothing restrains the LORD from saving by many or by few.” (1 Sam 14:6) Lord...we rest entirely on You...for without You, we are without strength. Be exalted, O LORD, in Your own strength! We will sing and praise Your power. (Ps 21:13) O God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You." (2 Chron 20:12) You are our God...and You have promised to be ours...we cleave unto You. We go out in Your name...do not let man prevail against You! Bring glory and honor to Your name!
He said,
“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge;
My savior, You save me from violence.
“I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
And I am saved from my enemies.—2 Samuel 22:2-4
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”—Joshua 1:9
10 Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'
11 "Behold, all those who were incensed against you
Shall be ashamed and disgraced;
They shall be as nothing,
And those who strive with you shall perish.
12 You shall seek them and not find them—
Those who contended with you.
Those who war against you
Shall be as nothing,
As a nonexistent thing.
13 For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand,
Saying to you, 'Fear not, I will help you.'
14 "Fear not, you worm Jacob,
You men of Israel!
I will help you," says the LORD
And your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel.—Isaiah 41:10-14
