17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You.—Psalm 139:17-18
Today, as I prayed before reading His word my heart (and eyes) filled up with tears of overwhelming gratitude for God’s faithful Presence in my life. Every morning, before I begin my day, I get to go to Him and be reminded that the God of the Universe cares for me and wants to spend time with me. I am never alone. I can never be separated from Him…my destiny, to live in Heaven with Him, is sure and certain. The Lord is my Helper! The Lord is on my side! He died for me when I was yet His enemy. How much more will He live for me as my God, my Brother and my Friend? Truly, if God is for me, who can be against me?
My first reading was Psalm 139:17-24. I didn’t get passed the first two verses before my eyes welled up, yet again. My God THINKS on me! If I were to count His thoughts toward me, they would outnumber the sand. That is hard to wrap my mind around, but nevertheless, it is true. My God also knows everything about me…the good, the bad and the ugly. Unbelievably, this does not bring fear to my heart only comfort because God’s love toward me is perfect. He is good and does good, I have no reason to fear. I can treasure (and even bask) in His continual attention and focus.
Whether I am awake or asleep, He is with me. He NEVER leaves me. He is my perpetual companion as I go through this life. Oh, Father! Write that one fact upon my heart! To know by faith with heart knowledge that You are continually with me. You hedge me behind and before and lay Your hand upon me. Every one of Your divine attributes is working in my life for my good and Your glory. You hold me by my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the LORD
Forever.—Psalm 23:4-6
The LORD will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me—Psalm 42:8
5 O LORD, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You maintain my lot.
6 The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places;
Yes, I have a good inheritance.
7 I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the LORD always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;
My flesh also will rest in hope.
10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol,
Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.
11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.—Psalm 16:5-11
