For With God Nothing Shall Be Impossible…

For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.Luke 1:37-38

The 1901 American Standard Version (ASV) of the Bible translates verse 37 as: “For no word from God shall be void of power.” I love that.  I am so glad I saw it because it really helped me see things about this portion of Scripture that I hadn’t before.

Mary assents to the word by saying, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. Mary willing submitted to the plan of God and refers to herself as the Lord’s handmaiden or slave.  She literally embraced the word which was from God and gave birth to His Son, Who is the Word of God. (Jesus)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.—John 1:14

She received with meekness the implanted word Who was not only able to save her soul but also the souls of all who would by faith believe in Him.

And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,—Ephesians 2:1

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.—Romans 10:17

And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah's womb. He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. And therefore "it was accounted to him for righteousness."—Romans 4:20-21. (See also Romans 4:16-25)

As we submit to His word and surrender to His Spirit’s working in our life the pleasure of our God will prosper in our lives.  Every time we say yes to Him…every time we look to Him and not to the world or ourselves for help…every minute we spend with Him…makes us resemble Him more and more.  Beloved…Embrace the Word.  Press on toward the goal (Christlikeness) by beholding your God.  May it be it unto “us” according to thy word.

Father…Thank you for the new life that Your Son has birthed in our hearts. Help us to receive Your word with meekness and walk by faith and not by sight. May we never waver in unbelief but be strong in believing…being fully convinced that you are able to perform what You have promised.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.—2 Corinthians 3:18

For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake. For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.—2 Corinthians 4:5-6

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, "I believed and therefore I spoke," we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you.—2 Corinthians 4:13-14

Remember the word to Your servant,

Upon which You have caused me to hope.—Ps119:49

Verses about God being able to do anything:  Gen. 18:14; Jer. 32:17; Matt. 19:26; Mark 10:27; Rom. 4:21

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.—Hebrews 4:12-13

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways," says the LORD.

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth,

So are My ways higher than your ways,

And My thoughts than your thoughts.

"For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,

And do not return there,

But water the earth,

And make it bring forth and bud,

That it may give seed to the sower

And bread to the eater,

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth;

It shall not return to Me void,

But it shall accomplish what I please,

And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.Isaiah 55:8-11 (emphasis mine)
