Encouragement from Scripture to Pray…

Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed.—Mark 1:35

Despite a full day of ministry…despite a full day of people…we read here that Jesus was up before daybreak and went out to a remote, uninhabited place to spend time in prayer and fellowship with His Father.

Waalvord comments that Mark selectively portrayed Jesus at prayer on three crucial occasions, each in a setting of darkness and aloneness: near the beginning of his account (v. 35), near the middle (6:46), and near the end (14:32-42). All three were occasions when He was faced with the possibility of achieving His messianic mission in a more attractive, less costly way. But in each case He gained strength through prayer.

Beloved…strengthen yourself in the Lord.  If Jesus needed to pray and spend time alone with His Father, how much more do we?  The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,—Philippians 2:5

My voice You shall hear in the morning, O LORD;

In the morning I will direct it to You,

And I will look up.—Psalm 5:3

I rise before the dawning of the morning,

And cry for help;

I hope in Your word.

My eyes are awake through the night watches,

That I may meditate on Your word.—Psalm 119:147-148

And delivered me from all my fears.

And saved him out of all his troubles.

The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him,

And delivers them.Psalm 34:7

Bow down Your ear, O LORD, hear me;

For I am poor and needy.

Preserve my life, for I am holy;

You are my God;

Save Your servant who trusts in You!

Be merciful to me, O Lord,

For I cry to You all day long.

Rejoice the soul of Your servant,

For to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.Psalm 86:1-4
