I just love how Psalm 119:148 reads in the New Life Bible:
My eyes wait for the night hours, so I may think about Your Word.
Roman’s 12 tells us to cling to what is good. God’s word is good. Romans 15:4 reminds us that whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. The believer’s hope comes through the Scripture. The Scriptures were written by the Spirit of God and are also used by Him to align our will with God’s perfect purposes.
Further down in Romans, Paul, prays this benedictory prayer.
13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Source, Author, and object of our hope is God. Joy and peace are the fruit of believing God. We have joy as we see what God has done, is doing and will do in our lives as we surrender to the Spirit’s power in our hearts. We have peace because we can rest securely knowing that God will do as He promised.
13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.—Ephesians 1:13-14
Ephesians 5:18-21 says this:
18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another in the fear of God.
And Colossians 3:16 this…
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Beloved…ask God to give you a desire for His word. Pray that you would wake longing for it and go to sleep with it on your heart. Fill yourself with the word of God...Let it dominate and control you...these are the guaranteed results:
You will teach, admonish, and sing as you go about your day. When you are tried…the Spirit using the word of God will direct your path. Give Christ, who is the Word of God, absolute pre-eminence in your life. Doing this will not only bless you both temporally and eternally it will also bless your family and others around you. Leave them this legacy…demonstrate this to them and they will have everything they need to get through this life…no matter what they face. Trusting in God’s promises, both you and they will rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.
