David’s Heart for God...

 1 Vindicate me, O LORD,

For I have walked in my integrity.

I have also trusted in the LORD;

I shall not slip.

2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me;

Try my mind and my heart.

3 For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes,

And I have walked in Your truth.

4 I have not sat with idolatrous mortals,

Nor will I go in with hypocrites.

5 I have hated the assembly of evildoers,

And will not sit with the wicked.

6 I will wash my hands in innocence;

So I will go about Your altar, O LORD,

7 That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,

And tell of all Your wondrous works.

8 LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house,

And the place where Your glory dwells.—Psalm 26:1-8

Vindicate me, O LORD,

For I have walked in my integrity.

I have also trusted in the LORD;

I shall not slip.

I love David’s heart for God!  As you read his Psalms you really can’t miss it. In verse one he calls on the Lord to judge Him...he cares not what man thinks about him only what God thinks. He places his trust in God knowing that although he is not perfect, the overall direction of his life has been one of obedience and fruit toward God.  His inward heart for his Lord has been reflected in his outward walk.  His word and deed match.  In the last part of verse 1 we see David trusting God in whatever would happen next. His heart is steadfastly walking in faith and in truth.  His feet will not slide because His God has got him.

2 Examine me, O LORD, and prove me;

Try my mind and my heart.

Verse 2 reminded me of David’s words in Psalm 139:

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;

Try me, and know my anxieties;

24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,

And lead me in the way everlasting

Beloved...this is a prayer of courage and a prayer one would not pray unless he was confident that his love for his God was without hypocrisy. David gives God is heart and asks Him to search it and lead him in right paths.  He WANTS to be ruled by God. His words brought these verses from Psalm 25 to mind

Teach me Your paths.

5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me,

For You are the God of my salvation;

On You I wait all the day.

Skipping down to the end of verse 6 through verse 8 we read...

So I will go about Your altar, O LORD,

7 That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving,

And tell of all Your wondrous works.

8 LORD, I have loved the habitation of Your house,

And the place where Your glory dwells

There are many that might go into the house of God in an attempt to hide their sin and hypocrisy from others...not David.  David loved the house of his God because he loved the God of the house!  His desire was to be in His Presence, to proclaim His wonderful works and to sing His praises.  His heart was all in!  There was no falseness in David. His whole being glorified God.

Father...do this work in me!  Search ME and know MY heart and lead ME in the way everlasting. Be my strong habitation to which I continually resort. Ending with more of David’s heart from Psalm 37, Psalm 43 and Psalm 27.

3 Trust in the LORD, and do good;

Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

4 Delight yourself also in the LORD,

And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

5 Commit your way to the LORD,

Trust also in Him,

And He shall bring it to pass.

6 He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,

And your justice as the noonday.

7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him;—Psalm 37

3 Oh, send out Your light and Your truth!

Let them lead me;

Let them bring me to Your holy hill

And to Your tabernacle.

4 Then I will go to the altar of God,

To God my exceeding joy;

And on the harp I will praise You,

O God, my God.

5 Why are you cast down, O my soul?

And why are you disquieted within me?

Hope in God;

For I shall yet praise Him,

The help of my countenance and my God.—Psalm 43

One thing I have desired of the LORD,

That will I seek:

That I may dwell in the house of the LORD

All the days of my life,

To behold the beauty of the LORD,

And to inquire in His temple.

5 For in the time of trouble

He shall hide me in His pavilion;

In the secret place of His tabernacle

He shall hide me;

He shall set me high upon a rock.

6 And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me;

Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;

I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD.—Psalm 27

The Unforgivable Sin...

 28 “Assuredly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; 29 but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”— 30 because they said, “He has an unclean spirit.”—Mark 3:28-30

8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.—1John 1:8-10

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.—1 John 2:1-2

According to 1 John 2:2, Jesus died not only for our sins, but for the sins of the whole world.   Mark 3 tells us this ( Jesus is speaking)

“all sins will be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they may utter; but he who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is subject to eternal condemnation”

Read with me John 19:28-30.

28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!" 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

John Mac Arthur says this about the words "It is finished!"

The verb carries the idea of fulfilling one’s task and, in religious contexts, has the idea of fulfilling one’s religious obligations (see 17:4). The entire work of redemption had been brought to completion. The single Greek word here (translated “it is finished”) has been found written on papyri receipts for taxes, meaning “paid in full”

If all that is true...and it is...why does anyone go to hell?  Beloved, the unforgivable sin spoken of in Mark Chapter 3 is the failure to believe in Jesus Christ who is the very One God provided to make atonement for our sin.  By rejecting Jesus you are rejecting God’s provision for sin.  Any other sin will be forgiven you, but not believing that Jesus died on the cross for your sin so that you could spend eternity in heaven with Him, will not be forgiven. How could it?  You have blocked your own path by your own refusal to believe. You are, in effect, calling God a liar.  Beloved, Jesus is the way, the truth and the life...no one comes to the Father but through Him.

But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down from above) 7 or, "'Who will descend into the abyss?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart" (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame." 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."—Romans 10:6-13

10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  18 "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."—John 3:10-21

"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.—John 5:24

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.—1 John 5:9-13

For He says:

"In an acceptable time I have heard you,

And in the day of salvation I have helped you."

Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.—2 Corinthians 6:2

For I Wait for You...

 16 Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me,

For I am desolate and afflicted.

17 The troubles of my heart have enlarged;

Bring me out of my distresses!

18 Look on my affliction and my pain,

And forgive all my sins.

19 Consider my enemies, for they are many;

And they hate me with cruel hatred.

20 Keep my soul, and deliver me;

Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You.

21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me,

For I wait for You.—Psalm 25:16-21

I was thankful this morning as I read these verses from Psalm 25.  There have been times when they would have hit me viscerally, the words resonating in my heart and making me cry out to God in overwhelming sorrow and despair. I have felt desolate and afflicted and surrounded by enemies. The circumstances of the trials that generated those feelings have not changed, but my heart which was broken from the pain of betrayal and loss, is now whole in Him.  I carry the grief with me always, but I also carry within my body the ONE who bears my grief and carries my sorrows. His sustaining and delivering grace has covered me with each cry.  I have never...not once...left His Presence bereft.

Father....Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, and Your tender mercies surround me. Thank you that You are my support. You bring me out of my distresses and enlarge the path under my feet so I do not slip. You consider my troubles!  You think on me!  As one whom his mother comforts, so You comfort me!  Make my trust in You my battle cry!  Your banner over me is love. I WILL trust You.  I will look to You and be radiant...my face unashamed. Even though for now my heart is still, at times, crushed with sorrow, Your eye of compassion rests on me.  As You said to Ephraim of old, You say to me, Your child:

“I do earnestly remember him still” (Jer. 31:20)

I will wait for You, my Jesus.  May my faith be my song!  I will keep my eyes on the bow that You have placed in the cloud. My heart is steadfast, Father, You will not allow my foot to be moved. Your promises are mine...I can say with Job, though You slay me, yet will I trust in You.

I will lift up my eyes to the hills--

From whence comes my help?

2 My help comes from the LORD,

Who made heaven and earth.

3 He will not allow your foot to be moved;

He who keeps you will not slumber.

4 Behold, He who keeps Israel

Shall neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD is your keeper;

The LORD is your shade at your right hand.

6 The sun shall not strike you by day,

Nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil;

He shall preserve your soul.

8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in

From this time forth, and even forevermore.

The Meditation of my Heart...

 And again He entered Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He was in the house. 2 Immediately many gathered together, so that there was no longer room to receive them, not even near the door. And He preached the word to them. 3 Then they came to Him, bringing a paralytic who was carried by four men. 4 And when they could not come near Him because of the crowd, they uncovered the roof where He was. So when they had broken through, they let down the bed on which the paralytic was lying. 5 When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven you."6 And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, 7 "Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" 8 But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, "Why do you reason about these things in your hearts? 9 Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Arise, take up your bed and walk'? 10 But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins"—He said to the paralytic, 11 "I say to you, arise, take up your bed, and go to your house." 12 Immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went out in the presence of them all, so that all were amazed and glorified God, saying, "We never saw anything like this!"

13 Then He went out again by the sea; and all the multitude came to Him, and He taught them. 14 As He passed by, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So he arose and followed Him.

15 Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi's house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. 16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, "How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?"

17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

18 The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, "Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?"

19 And Jesus said to them, "Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. 20 But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days. 21 No one sews a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; or else the new piece pulls away from the old, and the tear is made worse. 22 And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins."

23 Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. 24 And the Pharisees said to Him, "Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?"

25 But He said to them, "Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: 26 how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?"

27 And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. 28 Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath."—Mark 2:1-28

Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. 10 And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him.

11 Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? 12 Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” 13 Then He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and it was restored as whole as the other. 14 Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.—Matthew 12:9-14

If you took the time to read through the Scriptures above, you probably got a pretty telling insight into the heart of the Pharisees. Not pretty...  Truly, they were so intent on finding fault with Jesus that it seemed they wore “good, right and true” blinders.

When Jesus ate with sinners and tax collectors, they were deeply offended. When Jesus healed the man with the withered arm, they were angry that it was done on the Sabbath.  When Jesus healed the paralytic, they were angry that He claimed the power to forgive sins.  Whether the apostles were fasting or hungry they found fault and criticized.  Are you seeing my point?  Here is what is sad, though.  I can be like the Pharisees at times and if you are being honest, so can you.

Instead of focusing on those things that are true, right, noble and good in the lives of others, I focus on their faults and become critical in my heart.  Why?  Because my sight becomes obscured by my sin...especially my fear and my pride.  I need the pure word of God to enlighten my eyes and remove the sin that is blinding me, so I can see the good work the Holy Spirit is doing in their lives.  I need His Spirit to cast out my fear by pouring out His love in my heart.  I need His discernment, assurance, comfort, kindness and guidance to right my thinking and make my way straight.

Father...Help me to put off fear and walk in faith knowing that You are God and that Your desire for each of Your children is good.  May I cast all my cares upon You KNOWING You care for me. When contentions, jealousies, envy and self seeking rear their ugly, destructive heads in my heart, may Your Spirit use Your word to right my thinking and rejoice my heart. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.

Beloved...the verses for this particular application seemed beautifully endless.  Truly, the word is as it says in Hebrews 4:12 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

 "Talk no more so very proudly;

Let no arrogance come from your mouth,

For the LORD is the God of knowledge;

And by Him actions are weighed.—1 Samuel 2:3

Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.—1 Corinthians 1:10

I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, 5 that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, 7 so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.—1 Corinthians 1:4-9

For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.—1 Corinthians 2:2

For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;—Romans 12:3-9

The lamp of the body is the eye. Therefore, when your eye is good, your whole body also is full of light. But when your eye is bad, your body also is full of darkness. 35 Therefore take heed that the light which is in you is not darkness. 36 If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, the whole body will be full of light, as when the bright shining of a lamp gives you light."—Luke 11:34-36

“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother's eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove the speck from your eye'; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.—Luke 7:1-5

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.—Jeremiah 29:11

Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.—Colossians 3:12-17

An Acceptable Offering...

The word “offering” occurs OFTEN in the book of Leviticus.  Now I obviously have a good idea of what that word means in English but sometimes looking at its derivation is helpful to me. This time was no exception. John MacArthur says that this Hebrew word is derived from the verb to bring near and literally means “that which one brings near to God.”  The fact that the Israelites could approach to present their gifts to God speaks much of His mercy.  I love that!

The sacrifices in the Old Testament foreshadowed Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross by which those who believe are once and forever reconciled to God.  Because of His mercy, lovingkindness and grace, I can draw near to Him.  As I meditated on this, these verses from Micah came to mind...His words speak my heart.

6 With what shall I come before the LORD,

And bow myself before the High God?

Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings,

With calves a year old?

7 Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,

Ten thousand rivers of oil?

Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,

The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

8 He has shown you, O man, what is good;

And what does the LORD require of you

But to do justly,

To love mercy,

And to walk humbly with your God?—Micah 6:6-8

Oh Father!  I want to know the blessedness walking undefiled in the way...of following hard after You...of delighting to do Your will. Blessed are those who keep Your testimonies, who seek You with all of their heart.  Direct my ways, Father, to keep Your statutes!  Thank you that despite all my rebellion and sin, You do not forsake me but instead bid me in my weakness to draw ever nearer to You.

Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.—Hebrews 4:14-16

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.—Romans 12:1

5 Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:

"Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,

But a body You have prepared for Me.

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin

You had no pleasure.

7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come—

In the volume of the book it is written of Me—

To do Your will, O God.'"

8 Previously saying, "Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not desire, nor had pleasure in them" (which are offered according to the law), 9 then He said, "Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God." He takes away the first that He may establish the second. 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.—Hebrews 10:5-10

And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified....18 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.—Hebrews10:11-14;18

You are My Beloved Son, in Whom I am Well Pleased...

 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. 11 Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”—Mark 1:9-11

I stopped reading this morning at verse 11. Meditating on and looking at the cross-references for this verse brought much comfort to my heart.  The Word of God is amazing and the best commentary on it, is the word itself.   Mark here, uses it wisely, to confirm Jesus as God’s Servant. Some verses from the OT that came to mind here:

Moses is speaking...

"The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers-it is to him you shall listen- (Deuteronomy 18:15, ESV).

And another...

7 "I will declare the decree:

The LORD has said to Me,

You are My Son,

Today I have begotten You.

8 Ask of Me, and I will give You

The nations for Your inheritance,

And the ends of the earth for Your possession.

9 You shall break them with a rod of iron;

You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'"

10 Now therefore, be wise, O kings;

Be instructed, you judges of the earth.

11 Serve the LORD with fear,

And rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest He be angry,

And you perish in the way,

When His wrath is kindled but a little.

Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.—Psalm 2:7-12

Corollary verses I found for Psalm 2:7

5 For to which of the angels did He ever say:

"You are My Son,

Today I have begotten You"?

And again:

"I will be to Him a Father,

And He shall be to Me a Son"?

6 But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says:

"Let all the angels of God worship Him."—Hebrews 1:5-6

33 God has fulfilled this for us their children, in that He has raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second Psalm:

'You are My Son,

Today I have begotten You.'

34 And that He raised Him from the dead, no more to return to corruption, He has spoken thus:

I will give you the sure mercies of David.'

35 Therefore He also says in another Psalm:

You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.'

36 "For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption; 37 but He whom God raised up saw no corruption. —Acts 13:33-36

Also because Mark reveals Jesus as God’s Servant, one of the Servant Songs from Isaiah came to mind.

1 "Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,

My Elect One in whom My soul delights!

I have put My Spirit upon Him;

He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.

2 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice,

Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.

3 A bruised reed He will not break,

And smoking flax He will not quench;

He will bring forth justice for truth.

4 He will not fail nor be discouraged,

Till He has established justice in the earth;

And the coastlands shall wait for His law."

5 Thus says God the LORD,

Who created the heavens and stretched them out,

Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,

Who gives breath to the people on it,

And spirit to those who walk on it:

6 "I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness,

And will hold Your hand;

I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people,

As a light to the Gentiles,

7 To open blind eyes,

To bring out prisoners from the prison,

Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.

8 I am the LORD, that is My name;

And My glory I will not give to another,

Nor My praise to carved images.

9 Behold, the former things have come to pass,

And new things I declare;

Before they spring forth I tell you of them."—Isaiah 42:1-9

How did all of this speak and bring God’s comfort to my heart this morning?

  1.  Fulfilled prophecy - Predicting the future with absolute pinpoint accuracy says that the Bible is a supernatural book.  I have always love these quotes from Chuck Missler.  (speaking of the Bible)

“It is sixty-six books written by forty authors, written between 1446 B.C. & 90 A.D. But, now we discover that it is an integrated message system from outside our time and space domain.”—Chuck Missler

There are no other religious books on planet earth that have the audacity to hang their track record on their ability to predict the future. Only the Bible is 20/20, on target, and always has been. You can prove the Bible is true by what it says and what has happened.” —Chuck Missler

  1. What the Father says in verse 11 unbelievably applies to me as a believer in Jesus!   Read with me 2 Corinthians 5:21:

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Not because of me....who I am or anything I have done or have not done...but because of Christ my Father in heaven is well pleased with ME!  I can rejoice...because I am in Christ.  There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus...Heaven awaits.

  1.  He saw the Spirit descending upon him like a dove. - Amazingly, this same Spirit who descended upon Jesus like a dove lives in me, works in me and testifies in me that I am His child. He promises that He will complete the good work He began in me at the time of my salvation.

Beloved, Go your way rejoicing...

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. The LORD is their strength, and He is the saving refuge of His anointed. Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; shepherd them also, and bear them up forever.—Psalm 28:7-9
