Your people shall be volunteers
In the day of Your power;—Psalm 110:3a
This is a messianic Psalm which describes Jesus as both King and High Priest. Jesus explained in Mark 12:35-37 that this psalm spoke of the Messiah as greater than David, Israel’s greatest king. In Acts 2:32-35 Peter used this psalm to show that Jesus, the Messiah, sits at God’s right hand and is Lord over all.
Verse 3 hit my heart today.
Your people shall be volunteers
In the day of Your power
The word “volunteers” in verse 3 is literally free will offerings. This brought the true beauty of this Psalm to my heart. The people who serve Jesus are a “willing” people freely submitted to His sovereign rule
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.—Romans 12:1
Jesus is our true King. All power, all glory, all honor belong to Him and to Him alone. Our worship of our God is in spirit and in truth. We, who are believers, serve Him freely from our hearts because our hearts are abounding with thanksgiving toward Him for who He is and what He has done. We love Him because He first loved us. Whatever we do in word or deed, we do in His great name, prompted by His great love that dwells in our hearts, giving thanks to God our Father through Him.
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, having your conduct honorable among the Gentiles, that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may, by your good works which they observe, glorify God in the day of visitation.—1 Peter 2:9-11
and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.—Revelation 1:5-6
To God be the Glory by Lou Fellingham
To God be the glory! Great things He has done!
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son;
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the life-gate that all may go in.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!
Come to the Father, through Jesus the Son:
Give Him the glory! Great things He has done!
O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord! Let the people rejoice!
Come to the Father, through Jesus the Son:
Give Him the glory! Great things He has…
