Psalm 112...The Blessings of the Righteous

It was so encouraging to read through Psalm 112 this morning. Verses  1-9 (and there are only 10 verses) remind us of the blessings of obedience and verse 10 counters with the fate of the wicked.  It was uplifting as well to read the cross-references verses for each of the blessings delineated in this Psalm.

To the obedient who cherish and delight in God’s commandments...Whose law is in his heart:

—Blessings both temporal and eternal
—Prosperity
—Enduring righteousness
—Promised light in the darkness
—The mercy, compassion and kindness of God belongs to them
—God’s wisdom and discretion guide his affairs
—His foundation cannot be shaken.  God will never permit the righteous to be moved
—A steadfast heart that trusts God continually. (This one is my favorite...i am including a cross-reference verse)

but whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster."  (Proverbs 1:33, ESV)

Let the righteous one rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in him! Let all the upright in heart exult!  (Psalms 64:10, ESV)

—an unafraid established heart belongs to him.

He will not allow your foot to be moved;
He who keeps you will not slumber.—Psalm 121:3

—Victory over enemies

The LORD is on my side;
I will not fear.
What can man do to me?—Psalm 118:6

—his horn is exalted in honor - strength and righteousness are his

Verse 10 stands in total and utter contrast to the preceding verses.  The wicked man leads a worthless, purposelessness existence without strength.  Their end is destruction.

The wicked are not so,
    but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
    nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;
for the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
    but the way of the wicked will perish.—Psalm 1:4-6

Father,

There is so much deception in the world today.  Oh, how I need Your precious promises in Your word to lead me...to renew my mind in Your truth   Be the strength of my life today and every day!

Oh, send out Your light and Your truth!
Let them lead me;
Let them bring me to Your holy hill
And to Your tabernacle.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
To God my exceeding joy;
And on the harp I will praise You,
O God, my God.
5 Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.—Ps 43:3-5

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.—Romans 12:2

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.—2 Corinthians 3:18

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.—Psalm 139:23-24
